SPLASH - THE MUIRTOWN WATER FESTIVAL is the first family fun day at the Muirtown basin in Inverness. Join us on Saturday 23 June 2007 from 12noon to 5pm - Entry is FREE!
The event will feature a host of activities both on the water and off it.
On the water, kids will have the chance to learn how to sail or try their hand at rowing. For something more sedate, travel the famous stepped locks by water on the Seagull Trust's boat the Highland Seagull or take the Lock Keeper's tour and hear all about how these clever pieces of engineering work. To get your blood pumping, why not get fit with Step it up Highland and join them on an interesting walk from the basin out to the sea lock and back? We will also have safety demonstrations by the RAF and expect the first ever landing of a sea-plane in the Muirtown basin!
For those without sea-legs, there is still plenty to do. Kids can join our craft workshop, ride the bouncy castle or inflatable slide and for the tots there is also a sedate tea-cup ride. With free face painting and a balloon artist on hand, there is plenty for the most energetic of kids.
To explore more about the Caledonian Canal, why not enjoy a historical re-enactment by the Telford Tales team? Join them as they walk around the lock flight and learn more about the engineering feats demonstrated in the locks.
With great music from Moray Firth Radio and live music from rock band Stereoglo and traditional music by the Caledonian Canal Ceilidh Trail Band, you’re sure to be tapping your feet as you enjoy food from our wide range of stalls serving everything from tacos to Ostrich burgers!
